ROGER BERNAT

AUTHOR and DIRECTOR

Roger Bernat began his studies in the field of architecture and from there developed his interest in theatre. He studied directing and dramaturgy at the Institut del Teatre (Barcelona) and was awarded with the graduation award Premio Extraordinario 1996. In 2008 he started to create devices in which the audience becomes the protagonist, giving shape to the performance: «the spectators have to cross through a device that invites them to obey or to conspire and, in any case, to pay with their own body and become involved». To this day, his multifaceted projects have been presented in more than 30 countries.

Among his best known projects are Domini Públic (Teatre LLiure, Barcelona, 2008), The Rite of Spring (Teatro Milagro, México, 2010), Please, Continue (Hamlet) (with Yan Duyvendak at Théâtre du Grütli, Genève, 2011; at FIT in 2013, read more and watch the interview with Yan Duyvendak), Pendiente de voto (Centro Dramático Nacional, Madrid, 2012), Desplazamiento del Palacio de La Moneda (STML, Santiago de Chile, 2014), Numax-Fagor-plus (KunstenFestivalDesArts, Bruxelles, 2014; at FIT in 2015, read more and watch the after-show talk), We need to talk (Temporada Alta, Girona, 2015), No se registran conversaciones de interés (MUCEM, Marseille, 2016-17), The place of the Thing (Documenta 14, Athens-Kassel, 2017), ENA (with Mar&Varvara at Teatre Lliure, Barcelona 2020) or Pim pam (34 Biennal Sao Paulo, 2021).
