David Espinosa is an artist from Barcelona who develops his work in performances and interactive installations, always halfway between theatre, dance and visual arts. His work revolves around the idea of representation and breaking the limits of theatricality, questioning the scenic fact and altering the equation of the elements that compose it. Maintaining a critical attitude, full of irony, towards society and the art world, he tries in each creation to develop a formal play that surprises spectators and makes them participate in the vision of the work, crudely exposing the mechanisms and approaches of the piece.
Ever more interested in the creation of meaning through the relationship between form, light and sound, he has delved into the concept of spectacle, proposing devices that, with precarious and low-tech methods, “toys for adults” created in an artisanal and homemade manner, which, following the punk maxim of do it yourself, aim to bring contemporary creation closer to the spectator.
Created in Barcelona (in the spaces of the Asociación El Local Espacio de Creacion founded in 2006 together with the dancer África Navarro) and designed to adapt to unconventional spaces, the works of David Espinosa have been presented in unusual venues as well as in traditional theatres, within the local and national Spanish independent circuit, and also in international theatres and festivals including:Theater der Dinge Berlin, International Puppet Festival Jerusalem, Eurothalia Timisoara, Wiener Festwochen, World Theatre-Varna Summer Bulgaria, Fimfa Lisboa, Mime Festival-Tate Modern London, Ganz Novi Zagreb, Culture Station Seoul 284, Helsinki Festival, Oslo International Teaterfestival, CINARS Montreal, Theatre du Passage Neuchatel, MESS Sarajevo, Net Moscu, FIT Festival Lugano, Festival de Terni, Biennal de Venezia, Escena Contemporánea de Madrid, Alt Vigo, Bad Bilbao, TNT de Terrassa, Escena Abierta de Burgos, Ciclo Radicals Lliures Barcelona…
