Compagnie Philippe Saire was founded in 1986. A leading figure in contemporary dance in Switzerland, Philippe Saire has created some thirty shows to date, not counting performances, short films and workshops. His research encompasses the visual arts, theatre and cinema. These disciplines permeate his choreographic works, which are intense and finely crafted. His teaching experiences led him to develop a way of working that intertwines text and movement in productions that move away from the narrow framework of dance and move closer to theatre.
In 1995, Cie Philippe Saire inaugurated its place of work and creation, the Théâtre Sévelin 36. Located in Lausanne, this space is entirely dedicated to contemporary dance and contributes to the circulation of very diverse creations on an international and national scale, also programming and encouraging young local companies. In 2013, the Théâtre Sévelin 36 received the Special Dance Award from the Federal Office of Culture.
In 1998, Philippe Saire received the Grand Prix from the Fondation vaudoise pour la culture in the field of promotion and artistic creation. In the same year, he received the Prix d’auteur from the Conseil général de Seine-Saint-Denis (France) at the VIe Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales for Etude sur la légèreté. In 2004, he received the Swiss Dance and Choreography Award.
Since 2003, Saire has been teaching movement at the Manufacture – Haute école de théâtre de Suisse romande.
