Born and raised in Trentino, Angela Dematté chose to settle in Milan to pursue her artistic career. After a degree in Modern Literature and graduating from the theatre school Accademia dei Filodrammatici, she worked as an actress until she began her activity as an author in 2009: she wrote Avevo un bel pallone rosso and won Premio Riccione and Premio Golden Graal. The play was directed by Carmelo Rifici with whom she began a profound research that resulted in, among others, L’officina, Chi resta, Il compromesso, Ifigenia, liberata and Macbeth, le cose nascoste. During the same years she worked as a Dramaturg. She wrote, directed and performed Mad in Europe, which won the 2015 Premio Scenario and Premio Sonia Bonacina. In 2019 the city of Trento conferred on her the Premio Aquila d’Oro, highest recognition for culture. In 2024, he was awarded Migliore autore di novità italiana – “Best New Italian author” of the prestigious Premi Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano for De Gasperi: l’Europa brucia, another recent collaboration with Carmelo Rifici.
Texts of Angela Dematté as a playwright are published in Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany and Egypt. She collaborates with major theaters such as: LAC in Lugano, Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Théâtre de la Manufacture in Nancy.
