The research of Alessandra García (Malaga, 1984) approaches contemporary art and embraces the fields of post-dramatic and participatory theatre, as well as site specific interventions and the creation and curatorship of performative actions in different contexts.
Her works include the site specific Aquella postura realised with the collective HOMBRO CABEZA HOMBRO together with Violeta Niebla and Luz Prado for the work of Elena Alonso in the Matadero in Madrid. The conception and curatorship of the collective performance Vulva, which brought together 12 Spanish female artists with a strong national outreach. The conception of Patrimonio as part of Shared Studios’ #Portals project between Malaga and San Francisco. With Dos Bengalas she toured La lista de la compra, an immersive device presented in supermarkets. As a performer, she opened the I Festival de Performance de Málaga in 2013 with La perra que habito. With Viril by Ramón Gázquez and Cristian Alcaraz, she won residencies at the Conde Duque and Teatros del Canal. Alessandra García has a very strong connection with contemporary art museums having presented works at MUPAM, the Colección del Museo Ruso de San Petersburg in Malaga and the CAC, among others. Since 2017, she has participated as a performer in No se registran conversaciones de interés by Roger Bernat. She complements her artistic activity with performing arts and music programming at the Contenedor cultural space of the University of Malaga, where she also directs the theatre workshop.
Alessandra García is currently touring with her latest solo work Mujer en cinta de correr sobre fondo negro, which premiered at the Festival Internacional de teatro de Málaga in January 2021 and will be landing at FIT 2023. The performance was selected by the Red de Teatros Alternativos for the 2021 tour, won the best interpretation award at the premios Ateneo, won the prize for best New Show at the XXV Premios Max for performing arts where Alessandra García was also a finalist for best Lead Actress and New Author.
