LA TRISTURA (ES)

CINE (Kiné), etymologically refers to movement. As the creators of the show define it – this new work deals with courage, travel and movement. The search for identity, from an absolutely intimate place, but with political consequences.
Imagine a young man who, for years, has been unable to begin his journey. Perhaps out of fear or simple inability, perhaps because he has never found the right moment. In this journey he tries to find answers about his identity. An identity of which there is no trace in Spain since he was born and until the late 70s. Now, when the road movie begins, he is finally engaged in this search. Along the way he will find himself in situations that will reveal his history and that of this country. The subject matter of CINE is no small matter: through the protagonist’s quest to find his real parents, the two directors, Itsaso Arana and Celso Giménez, evoke the tragedy of some three hundred thousand children stolen in Spain during Francoism. A painful and largely ignored memory that does not yield to pathos or one-sided denunciation. We are not reporters – they say – nor judges, our task is to share this story, creating images and texts and amplifying it with our language.
