Montserrat says Gabino Rodriguez, ‘is a project that started with the question of who was the woman who gave me life. Today I only have a few glimmers of her that cannot form a memory. I know that her name was María Montserrat Gerardina Lines Molina. I know that she was born in Costa Rica, of a Catalan father and a Costa Rican mother. I know that she had only one sister: Nuria.
I know that she came to live in Mexico. I know that she was an anthropologist. I know that she had only one son. I know that he disappeared more than 20 years ago. I do not know much more. To paraphrase Alain Badiou,’ Rodriguez continues, ‘let’s consider that staging something implies a desire for revolt and that therefore there is no stage without a certain discontent with reality. It is necessary to testify to what happens in life, but at the same time this testimony is a selection, an invention, and this addition between what is presented and what is represented is made up of nostalgia, resentment or criticism of those who create it. At the same time, the whole production contains hope, the simple idea of preparing something for others to see, to say something in front of others, implies trust in dialogue as a mechanism to transform our perception of reality. So, we think that theatre makes sense insofar as it is born as a revolt and we believe that this can change people, reality.
