In Your Majesties, Navaridas & Deutinger present President Barack Obamas Nobel Lecture, held at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo.  Alex Deutinger recites the legendary speech of the President of the United States of America. From behind the audience, Marta Navaridas performs as a gesturing teleprompter, manipulating and guiding his movements. The President´s speech is revived, a piece of World History is updated and the techniques of political rhetoric are laid bare in a surprisingly clear and simple way. A fascinating and subtle lesson on war, peace and hope.
Your Majesties therefore is not a parody or even a boring repetition of Obama’s speech. At the center of attention, the politician in front of the audience. In the background, those who pull the strings. The show reveals the mechanisms that bind politicians, their body language and their advisors. We witness the gradual dismantling of the political gesture in its traditional problematic relationship with reality. Navaridas & Deutinger shed a new light on the gesture of politicians by moving it out of context and allowing us a reading of the “staging” of politics. They help us understand well the differences between political talk, political action, and political will. In democratic systems all three are intertwined, if not through trust, then at least through hope. And this hope – incredibly – is at the heart of Navaridas & Deutinger’s individual reflection.
