DARIA DEFLORIAN & ANTONIO TAGLIARINI (IT)

One of the leading companies of the new Italian and European dramaturgy returns to the FIT Festival. Starting point and background of the work is a strong image, taken from the opening pages of the novel Termination (Περαίωση, L’esattore), by the Greek writer Petros Markaris (2011). We are in the midst of the Greek economic crisis when the bodies of four women, pensioners, are found to have voluntarily taken their own lives. “We have realized that we are a burden to the state, to all of society,” they explain in a note, “So, we’re leaving so we can stop giving you trouble. You will save on our pensions and live better”. A hard show, a punch in the stomach, that touches closely. A show not to watch but to con-participate in. A continuous swing from the invented story to the lived life, with hints deliberately-involuntarily ironic and with an intelligent and never rhetorical civil commitment. A show able to break the clichés of “fiction” and mix them with life.
