Actor and author Roberto Corradino was born in Bari, in southern Italy. Through his practice, he explores the role of the actor by confronting tradition in a dimension close to the “happening” form, in a disturbing proximity to the spectator. His goal, approaching contemporary dramaturgy, is trying to re-imagine theatre shows as collective rituals, combining tradition and new languages to create a form of simple, popular theatre. On stage he has worked with Mimmo Cuticchio, Martinelli/Montanari Teatro delle Albe, Maria Maglietta, Pippo Delbono, Sandro Lombardi and Federico Tiezzi, Eimuntas Nekrosius.
In October 2000 he created the company and production house Reggimento Carri | teatro, collaborating with Italian and international festivals and structures, such as Es.terni, FIT Festival, Kismet OperA, Festival Castel dei Mondi, Teatri di Vetro. His works include Piaccainocchio, Perché ora affondo nel mio petto from Pentesilea by Kleist, Conferenza/Nudo in semplice anarchia from Shakespeare’s Richard II, Le muse orfane by M.M.Bouchard, Cuore come un tamburo nella notte from De Amicis (at FIT in 2011), Making of Le pays lointain de Jean Luc Lagarce, Le Braci, L’Osso Duro from Kafka, Senza volontà di cattura, Parla con mia madre (at FIT in 2018), L’unica casa certa.
From the motivation for the award Premio Tuttoteatro.com alle arti sceniche Dante Cappelletti 2020:
«And if, as Guy Debord wrote, wisdom will never come – because it is just another form of conformism – Roberto Corradino confirms, with the consistency of his path as author and actor, that Theatre, always on the verge of failure, remains one of the last spaces in which the spark of a different Truth can shine again at least for a moment.»
