ALESSANDRA CELESIA

AUTHOR & DIRECTOR

Alessandra Celesia trained at the École internationale de théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. She worked as an actress and director throughout Europe and then launched a career as an author and director. In 2018, she created the company Curious Industries, which explores the boundary between the world of theater and documentary filmmaking by creating hybrid productions, “live films” in which the protagonists are on stage as well as on screen.

Alessandra Celesia has signed several documentaries, including Luntano (2006), The Belfast Bookseller (2012), and Miraggio all’italiana (2013). At FIT 2018 she presented Anatomia del miracolo (2017), a work that confronts devotion to the “wounded Madonna” a very particular image of Roman Catholic iconography, idolized especially in Naples.

Among her major theatrical successes is Mucche ballerine (2005) where the years of the German occupation and the Italian Resistance are told from the curious perspective of a fighting cow reduced to hiding. Still at FIT 2018, along with her film work, she presented the documentary theatre piece Heidi Project (read more and watch the after-show talk) an autobiographical tale at the border between two worlds: film and performing arts.

At the end of 2022, Alessandra Celesia / Curious industries’ latest theater production, Licheni, debuted in Aosta, a work which continues on the path of exploring an intimate universe in close connection with the landscape, a specific landscape that is part of the author’s childhood: the Italian Alps.
