HOFESH SHECHTER

Hofesh Shechter (born in Jerusalem in 1975) belongs to the extraordinary generation of artists born and raised in Israel and then emigrated to the world such as Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, Gai Behah. Recognised as one of the most complete and original artists, in addition to dance, he is known for composing atmospheric musical scores to complement the strong physicality of his choreographies. He is the artistic director of Hofesh Shechter Company (founded in 2008) and Shechter II, both based in the UK, where the artist has lived permanently since 2002 and has been awarded prestigious honours, such as the Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2018, for his dedication to dance.

Shechter has also staged and choreographed works on leading international dance companies including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Batsheva Ensemble, Candoco Dance Company, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 1, Paris Opera Ballet and Royal Ballet Flanders. Hofesh Shechter has worked as a choreographer for theatre, television and opera. In 2016, The Stage magazine ranked him among the 100 most influential people in theatre.
