MEETING OF THE SWISS THEATER

Meeting of the Swiss Theater

These are the dates of the new 2022 edition.
The festival will take place this year from 18 to 22 May 2022 at the Chur Theater, at the Postremise, also in Chur, and at the TAK Theater Liechtenstein.

LINGUA MADRE. Capsule per il futuro
is among the eight productions present at the festival and in the Short list, which will also serve as the basis for the Federal Theater Jury of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) for the “Swiss Theater Show 2021” award, which will be awarded in the autumn as part of of the Swiss Performing Arts Awards.

LINGUA MADRE, LAC project will be present with:

Other Lands – curated by Paola Tripoli
South Africa “Margin of error” by Rudi van Der Merwe (CH)
Poland “Antibodies” by Anka Herbut
Palestine / Egypt
Notions never defined by investigating,
a subject we are contemplating” by Noor Abuarafeh and Mohamed Abdelkarim

Other Lands is a rhetoric free zone in which the “forgotten artist” can take back the personal pronoun, the first person. It arose out of the need to listen to stories and visions free from cultural colonialisms, the fruit of different kinds of stages. It is a space devoted to artists and places where the relationship between artistic creation and politics is under threat. Original creations where, like in South Africa, the strength of minority languages takes on a political significance. In Egypt and Palestine where the body is disappearing, spaces are emptying out and rites are changing.
And Poland which, through the feminist movement, is rediscovering artistic space in defense of liberal democracy.

– Analisi Logica –Riccardo Favaro (text), Fabio Condemi (direction)

Riccardo Favaro, already author of A True Tragedy (FIT, 2020), signs Analisi logica, a dramaturgy in the form of an essay that meets the direction of Fabio Condemi, here also author of sets and costumes. A journey divided into three chapters (followed by an epilogue) which ideally retrace a critical look at the founding parts of the syntax: “Subject”, “Predicate” and “Things” (complements, attributes and applications). Analisi logica  generally defines the procedure by which the elements of a sentence are identified. Therefore, the didactic and normative idea that we all have of it is that of a substantial practice of controlling language. From here a broader reflection begins, which acts as a synthesis between theater and questions related to the multiplicity of the arts: a work that, starting from free quotations, from Edgar Allan Poe to Jean-Luc Godard, develops an autonomous writing that ironically puts crisis the fixed and imperishable idea of syntax.

The initial chapter of the work, divided into three episodes, is Subject. Alfonso De Vreese, Leda Kreider and Beatrice Vecchione are the interpreters

PROGRAMME

During the pandemic period, when all the theaters were closed, Carmelo Rifici, director of the LAC, and Paola Tripoli, artistic director of the FIT International Theater Festival and the  contemporary scene of Lugano, launched a sort of HUB for artists, “Lingua Madre »: It was necessary to think and create together, with the help of technology, for the technique and not for its services. “A pact with technology must be one of knowledge and not one of consumption”, as Paola Tripoli said. And so the multi-part digital project «Lingua Madre. Capsule per il futuro». An artistic rhizome species with the most varied expressive forms and underground correlations, however without a linear or final structure. The project consists of textual reflections, films, audio contributions, lectures and images as well as the material resulting from the process.

From this astonishing construct, which is still growing, which envelops the performances that are once again usable live as digital variations, in the context of the Swiss Theater Meeting we will show two projects: the film “Analisi Logica” by Riccardo Favaro (text) and Fabio Condemi (direction) and the multi-part project “Other Lands”, curated by Paola Tripoli. This rests on the principle of letting those who have been silenced speak out.

Explore the various layers of “Other Lands”, which take you to South Africa, Egypt / Palestine and Poland. Depending on the country, the digital installation includes interactive maps with audio contributions, in-depth texts and short films. The poetic space of reflection of the film “Logical Analysis” mainly deals with the analysis of language, however, as in a dream, it is allowed to completely lose the time of a moment.
