Winner of numerous awards, including the 2007 Premio Europa Nuove Realt\u00e0 Teatrali. His theatre on the borderline between two different theatrical traditions, such as Russian and German, leads to what Hermanis himself has called &#8220;a quite incredible chemistry&#8221;.<br \/>\nIn <em>Sonja<\/em>, two clumsy, burly thugs sneak into a doll&#8217;s house. Houses have a soul and, partly for fun, partly for love, the two actors reconstruct the life of the unfortunate landlady. The more determined of the two strips his accomplice of his clothes and forces him to wear underwear, a woman&#8217;s dress and a wig with curlers. Sonja&#8217;s domestic intimacy &#8211; and this is the strength of Hermanis&#8217; vision &#8211; slowly takes possession of them and everything returns to life, to suffering, to love. The interior is maniacally reconstructed, we can almost smell the scents of 1930s Leningrad. Nothing is missing on stage: pots, photo albums, provisions, bed, basins, table with embroidered tablecloth, old dolls. The victim of a not-so-innocent prank, Sonja, a hard-living, fragile soul, has for years had a platonic correspondence with Nikolai, an imaginary suitor from the mind of her cruel neighbours.
