Johanna Heusser confronts this male-connoted Swiss sport in a duet with two male performers and openly questions the identity of this practice.

Personnally, Johanna Heusser is sceptical about Swiss traditions in her everyday life, probably not least because they often seem to her to be closely linked to conservative, nationalist and patriarchal values with which she cannot identify. Beyond the exercise of these traditions, she feels that they are problematic in the modern society in which we live. But of course, this is precisely what makes it clear how powerful the use of living traditions, such as Swiss wrestling, as an object of projection can be. Through suggesting specific aspects of traditional wrestling and its festivals as a performative stage practice and shifting them with the help of certain strategies, she dares to propose an alternative concept.

FRI 07.10.2022 | 20.30
TEATROSTUDIO LAC – LUGANO

21.45 After-show meeting with the audience
moderator Simon Valdwogel

DR CHURZ, DR SCHLUNGG UND DR BÖÖS
concept and choreography Johanna Sofia Heusser
performers Dennis Freischlad, David Speise
dramaturgy Fiona Schreier
scenography and sound, light Marc Vilanova
light, video Robert Meyer
costumes Diana Ammann
outside eye Selina Beghetto, Stephan Stock
coaching Stefan Aebi
culturjournalist Linus Schöpfer
production management Sarah Schoch
realisation Verein Landholz
co-production ROXY Birsfelden

DR CHURZ, DR SCHLUNGG UND DR BÖÖS JOHANNA HEUSSER (CH) “Schwingen” is a cultural physical practice that can be used to represent and negotiate various thematic complexes.
