{"id":8648,"date":"2022-04-19T17:51:33","date_gmt":"2022-04-19T15:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fit.latitud46.com\/?post_type=fit-artisti&#038;p=8648"},"modified":"2026-05-16T13:52:45","modified_gmt":"2026-05-16T11:52:45","slug":"milo-rau","status":"publish","type":"fit-artisti","link":"https:\/\/fit.latitud46.com\/en\/fit-artists\/milo-rau\/","title":{"rendered":"MILO RAU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Milo Rau, born 1977 in Bern, studied sociology, German and Romance languages and literature in Paris, Berlin and Zurich with Pierre Bourdieu and Tzvetan Todorov, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Rau&#8217;s theatre productions have been shown at all major international festivals, including the Berlin Theatertreffen, the Festival d&#8217;Avignon, the Venice Biennale, the Vienna Festival Weeks and the Brussels Kunstenfestivaldesarts, and have been touring in over 30 countries worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Rau has received many awards, including the <strong>3sat Prize<\/strong> 2017, the <strong>Saarbr\u00fccken Poetics Lectureship for Drama<\/strong> 2017 and the renowned <strong>ITI Prize of the World Theatre Day<\/strong> in 2016. In 2017, Milo Rau was voted &#8220;Acting Director of the Year&#8221; in a survey conducted by Deutsche B\u00fchne, in 2018 he received the <strong>European Theatre Prize<\/strong> for his life&#8217;s work and in 2019 he was the first artist ever to be &#8220;Associated Artist&#8221; of the &#8220;European Association of Theatre and\u00ad Performance &#8211; EASTAP&#8221;. In 2019 he received an honorary doctorate from Lund University (Malm\u00f6), in 2020 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Ghent University. In 2020 he received the renowned M\u00fcnster Poetry Lectureship for his complete artistic oeuvre, his plays were voted &#8220;Best of the Year&#8221; in critics&#8217; surveys in over 10 countries. The film version of &#8220;Orestes in Mossul&#8221; &#8211; followed by a speech by Milo Rau &#8211; will open the Dutch Theatre Festival in September 2020, at the same time the book &#8220;Why Theatre?&#8221; will be published, in which Rau asks 100 leading intellectuals and artists from all over the world to answer this question.<\/p>\n<p>Rau&#8217;s films (including <em>Die letzten Tage der Ceausescus<\/em>, <em>Hate Radio<\/em>, <em>Die Moskauer Prozesse<\/em>, <em>Das Kongo Tribunal<\/em>, <em>The New Gospel<\/em>) have been\u00ad awarded many prizes\u00ad (including a <strong>Special Award at the Festival des Deutschen Films<\/strong>, the <strong>Z\u00fcrcher Filmpreis<\/strong> or the <strong>Amnesty International Prize<\/strong>), his last film <em>Das Kongo Tribunal<\/em> was nominated for the German and Swiss Film Awards, among others: &#8220;Milo Rau ennobles the cinema&#8221;, said the jury of the Z\u00fcrcher Filmpreis, for example.
